How to Make Kombucha from an FTC SCOBY Kit (Part 1)


This is a how to guide on making your very own kombucha from home! Everything referenced below is using our at-home SCOBY Kit which you can purchase here.

Step 1 – Get Organized

Lay out all the ingredients from your FTC SCOBY Kit. Identify all the components and double check you have everything using the reference image below.

Step 2 – Get Started!

We are going to make sweat green tea with the four tea bags, fill the container about ¾ full.

Step 3 – Steep the Tea

Remember don’t steep too long, only about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4 – Sweetin’ Things Up!

Add that 1 cup of non-GMO sugar 😉

Step 5 – Stir

Make sure to stir up that sugar!

Step 6 – Cool

Let cool to room temperature so we don’t hurt the “jelly’s”, oh I mean SCOBY’s

Step 7 – Add in the Main Ingredient

Time to add the starter and “Jelly” (SCOBY)

Step 8 – Cover It

Now it’s time to put a lid on it. Use the cloth and rubber band found in your kit.

Step 9 – Ferment and Wait…

Now, find a warm, dark spot to let the concoction ferment for about 8 to 10 days before we test/try it. You’ll be looking for the ‘mushroom’ to form on top.
